8 Unique Gifts To Buy At Whole Foods

December 13, 2017

If you’re making your list and checking it twice you better stop by a Whole Foods Market for some gift-giving advice.

Patrycia Kubica, who works in the Whole Body department at Whole Foods Square One, says the popular grocery chain has a great selection of gift ideas to suit everyone on that Christmas List.

“Whole Body is a one-stop shop for all of your wellness and lifestyle needs,” she says. “From supplements to natural cosmetics and body care products, we have some great, organic, natural and local products.”

Kubica walked me around the department to share some of her favourite gift ideas:

Burts Bees: Kissable Colour -Warm Collection

Burt’s Bees has come a long way from its trademark beeswax lip balms explains Kubica, “Burt’s has rebranded its lip-care line to keep up with current makeup trends.”

From lipsticks to lip crayons, the lip care collection is impressive but Kubica says there’s one item in particular that will make a great gift.

Packaged in a beautiful holiday box, the Kissable Colour Warm Collection by Burts Bees features a trio of natural Lip Shimmers.

Peony – a pale beige mauve
Rhubarb – a bright cool pinky red
Fig – a warm red-brown with hints of coral

What’s so great about them?

“These Lip Shimmers nourish and moisturize lips and also give you a pop of luminescent colour. They are very vibrant and go on beautifully,” explains Kubica.

The Whole Body associate believes that this is a great gift for someone who loves to play around with colour but also values good quality. “The shimmers are 100% natural. You’re getting base ingredients of sunflower oil, beeswax, cocoa butter and rosemary which stimulates blood flow to your lips.”

Burt’s Bees Lip Shimmers come in a festive holiday pack. Burt’s has taken a natural apprach to lip care.

Enfleurage Organics: Handcrafted Soaps

For someone who likes handcrafted soaps, Kubica recommends a company called Enfleurage Organics.

“This is a local brand, from Oakville Ontario, that specializes in homemade soaps… I absolutely love this company, there are different types of soaps within the line to meet different body-health needs,” Kubica explains.

The Whole Body associate pointed out some of her favourite soaps from the line:

Thai Lavender: “It has a very strong essence of lavender which is ideal for people who are stressed out, on the go and just want to have a claiming experience when they’re showering,” Kubica says.

Face Works: “This soup has activated charcoal so you’re actually detoxing your skin…you can use it anywhere, your scalp, back, face.” Face works is ideal for those with breakouts Kubica adds.

Argan Hair Works Shampoo Bar: “This one is great for travelling, great for camping… a shampoo soap is, in my opinion, a really good way to be a more sustainable and eco-minded.”

All soaps are made in small batches, by hand, with certified organic ingredients.

Enfleurage’s Face Works-  This charcoal face soap improves the appearance of skin and has detoxifying benefits. This line of handcrafted, natural, artisanal soaps is ultra nourishing.

Andalou Naturals: Skin Care Gift Sets

Those who appreciate natural skin care will love Andalou Naturals skin-care sets explains Kubica. “These starter-sets are designed to target a specific skincare need like ageing, sensitivity or brightening.

Kubica is a big fan of the Brightening line.

“If you know someone on your list who loves natural skin care but you don’t really know their skin-type, I would recommend the Brightening line by Andalou because it’s great for all skin types,” she says.

According to the Whole Body consultant, the Brightening line reveals skin’s natural glow and promotes a healthy complexion. “This line helps with circulation and cell turn over and obviously brightening the skin which are things we all need help with,” Kubica says.

She explains that the winner in this set is the glycolic mask.I frekin love the glycolic mask in the set, it’s made with pumpkin, honey, vitamin C and turmeric so it really helps bring out that glow and warmth.”

Those with acne-prone skin should consider a glycolic mask instead of an abrasive scrub to remove dead skin and impurities explains Kubica, “a scrub may irritate the skin and cause more breakouts…this is another reason why I love this set.”

The Brightening Solutions Targets:

  • Normal & Combination Skin Types
  • Uneven Tone
  • Sun Damage
  • Dry Cheeks
  • T-zone Shine

Kubica reminds us that the products in the starter-sets are smaller than the products sold individually. “This is great for those who are new to the brand or line, they can test out the products to see how they like it.”

Andalou Naturals is a skin care and beauty company that emphasizes on creating non-GMO, organic products made with sustainable ingredients.

Andalou Naturals Brightening Kit- Improve complexion, brightness and remove impurities with this holiday set. Andalou features different sets to target your skin-care needs.

Pacha Soap Company: Froth Bombs

“Pacha is a feel-good company,” Kubica says.

Pacha makes environmentally sustainable products that empower different communities around the world.  According to their website, every time you make a Pacha Soap purchase “you help fuel clean water initiatives, small-scale soap shops and other sustainable ventures in developing countries.”

Kubica says she really loves Pacha’s froth bombs – also referred to as bath bombs.

“Bath bombs are so popular right now and Pacha has an amazing assortment,” she says. Made from whole ingredients, each froth bomb nourishes the skin.

“I have never tried something that has exfoliated my skin so well… I finish my bath feeling like I have baby skin,” Kubica raves.

Her favourites include the French Lavender Froth Bomb and the Sweet Honey Almond Froth Bomb – you can use the entire product or you can break it up into chunks she says.

Pacha Soap  is free of parabens, harsh surfactants, sulfates, propylene glycol, phthalates, petro-chemicals, dyes and anything else that’s not good for your skin.

Pacha Soap Co- Pacha makes an assortment of skin care products including these ultra-rich froth bombs. Pacha is a big believer in empowering entrepreneurs and communities in developing countries.

Metamorphosis Skin: Body Scrub

Metamorphosis Skin has an amazing line of artisanal body scrubs explains Kubica.

“This is a huge favourite and top seller because the scrubs are handcrafted, made in Canada.” She says. “The owner Denise actually makes sure every ingredient is sourced from Canada.”

Body scrubs are important to remove dead skin, improve cell turnover, detoxify the body and improve circulation. Metamorphosis also includes fair trade shea butter in their scrubs for an added moisturizing effect.

Kubica says she loves all of the scrubs in the line.

“They’re all so good… but the ones with sea salt are really popular. Sea salt, explains Kubica, is high in magnesium, calcium, potassium, iron, zinc which promotes relaxation, reduces stress and relaxes muscles.

“This line also has a great soak made with eucalyptus and sea salt and it really stimulates blood flow and reduces muscle inflammation.”

Metamorphosis is proud to partner with small, sustainable businesses and local farms that grow responsibly to help improve the quality of their products explains Kubica.

All products in this line are vegan, cruelty-free, with no synthetic fragrances, or additives.

Nuworld Botanicals: Aromatherapy

Nuworld Botanicals is a Canadian aromatherapy company that features an amazing collection of easy to use, roll-on, essential oil blends explain the Whole Body associate. “Each Aromatherapy Personals is beautifully fragrant and targets a specific need.”

Kubica believes that aromatherapy is important because the aromatic essential oils used in the blends can improve mental and physical health.

“There’s one for meditation, mental clarity. We have one for jet-lag, there’s sinus headache relief, immune boost, stress. There are so many to choose from,” she says. “I know everyone can benefit from improving mental clarity or relieving stress.”

The Whole Body associate says shoppers love the idea of aromatherapy on-the-go because it’s discrete, easy to use and can fit anywhere. “You can take your Nuworld aromatherapy anywhere you go and it’s packaged in a really cute bottle.”

The Nuworld roll-ons are sold individually or as part of a set of three.

According to Nuworld’s website, users should massage the formula onto pulse point areas on the skin– back of the neck (or just below ears), inside wrists or temples. Users should also breathe in the aroma to improve one’s overall well-being.

Nuworld Botanicals uses organic, raw, and unformulated ingredients to achieve quality products and promote best health results. All products are made by hand and in small batches to guarantee freshness and purity for customers.

St Francis Herb Farm: Deep Immune

With the cold and flu season upon us, Kubica says Deep Immune, original, by St Francis Herb Farm is an ideal gift for that someone who’s always on the go.

“It’s not your conventional gift but for that person who lives a hectic lifestyle, like a student or a busy adult, this is an amazing product that strengthens the immune system,” she explains.

The tincture of herbs like astragalus, licorice and codonopsis keep the immunity strong and the body full of energy she says.

“The reason we get sick is because we’re stressed, we’re not getting enough sleep and we’re not eating well,” explains Kubica. “Deep Immune can at least give you a boost and protection to keep the immune system strong.”

Deep immune can be used as a preventative treatment year-round or as a way to relieve cold and flu symptoms if you get sick.

In 50ml, 100ml, or 250ml bottles, the formula is easy to take and can be mixed with water, juice or smoothies. “Follow the recommended dose on the bottle,” Kubica says.

St Francis Herb Farms started almost 30 years ago, and today the Ontario brand is used by naturopaths and health experts alike. Their herbal medicines are crafted with the highest quality herbs Kubica explains.

St Francis Herb Farm – This herbal tincture, Deep Immune Original,  strengthens the immune system and can help ward off unwanted viruses.

Flora: Immediate Relief Enzymes

The Immediate Relief Enzyme -formerly known as Ultimate Digestive Enzyme– helps reduce gas and bloating which is so common during the holidays Kubica explains.

“This time of year we’re eating heavy meals so this is great to have in your purse, or on your person, to whip out after a meal that has you feeling kind of bloated.”

Enzymes are ideal after heavy meals and eating out at restaurants. Kubica says this product promotes regularity, improves digestion and prevents the uncomfortable feeling of fullness after a meal.

Those with a sensitivity to certain foods like bread or dairy can also benefit from digestive enzymes.

Flora’s Immediate Relief Enzyme doesn’t have to be refrigerated and anyone can use it, but Kubica says you should always consult a healthcare professional before introducing anything new into your diet especially if you are on medication.

Flora’s Immediate Relief Enzyme- Prevent bloating, gas and digestive discomfort this holiday season. Flora’s digestive enzymes are easy to take, store and carry with you and relieve the symptoms of digestion problems.

Kubica says the Whole Body Department encourages shoppers to test out their products. “We have a variety of testers so you can see and feel what the product is like,” Kubica says. “For those who are unsure about a product, we have a great return policy… you can try something out and you have 30 days to return the item if you don’t like it.”

Most of the products mentioned in this list are sustainable, natural, locally made and have a social message. Kubica says this is a prevalent theme throughout the Whole Body Department.

“Our products are not only great but they’re good for you and they’re made by people who are passionate about improving your well-being.”

While we only explored eight unique gift ideas for the holiday season, the popular grocery chain has a variety of cosmetic, lifestyle and wellness products that are sure to fit your needs. Stop by the Whole Body Department at Whole Foods to check out what other cool things they have in store.

Ouu I never thought of going to whole foods for some gift ideas but it makes sense. Everyone seems to be on this natural, health and wellness vibe so why not? I have personally tried the Brightening line and I love it! I am not totally immersed or converted into natural everything but I will say this was the only line that didn’t make me break out, and I had previously tried Kiehls, Clinique , The Body Shop for years and nothing has worked as good as Andalou. Thanks for bringing these ideas to the forefront. I appreciate the commentary too 🙂

So happy that the Brightening line is working for you. I can speak from experience… it is so difficult to find something that works for my skin. Glad you enjoyed the post 🙂

I was gifted a tub of Metamorphosis body scrub…it was the Muskoka Cranberry and I LOVED IT! This is a good reminder to pick up more up lol but what is the shelf life of these scrubs, how much should I buy each time? I love natural, wholesome, locally made products; this is a great list. I would have never thought about gifting digestive enzymes but it certainly does make sense… especially with all of the Christmas dinners coming our way!

    • Reply angelahoyos December 15, 2017 at 3:13 pm

Great question Karen! I spoke to the president and creator of Metamorphosis and this is what she says:

“The scrubs have a 6-month shelf life, minimum, the cold pressed oils have a 2-year shelf life, and a natural preservative is added. The essential oils also assist in keeping the scrub fresh. But we know you will use them up quick enough because you will want to try more.”

Hope this helps and yes I agree, I think enzymes would make a great gift!
